Dang this one took forever to do. 
This is my entry for
's 19th biweekly contest.
The theme was this time "flying fortress".
My concept: in a post-apocalyptic world, a group of survivors stumbled across an aging engineer with the plans for one of the last great inventions of the lost golden age: the higgs-boson repulsor, which functions as a gravity deflector. After more than a year of effort, they managed to equip a grounded cargo ship with a micro-tokamak and a set of HGRs. Over the ensuing decades, the "Ironcloud", as it has become known, has by way of scavenge, hard work, and a bit of "make it fit" engineering, grown into a fortified city in the sky, one of the last bastions of the golden age's lost knowledge. Armed with a variety of deck guns, howitzers, and the manufacturing capacity of a small city, there is a reason the residents of the Ironcloud are some of the few who sleep soundly at night in the new dark ages.

That suspension bridge was actually what made me go with this version of the design, I loved the way that between it, the industrial buildings, and the parts of the cargo ship showing through the eye can't quite figure out what its looking at at first.
To me, if I squint at it right, it almost looks like a locomotive.
There's a weird coincidence that goes along with it- at the same time I was working on this, I was reading Virtual Light by William Gibson for the first time. One of the settings for that book a slum near San Francisco known as "The Bridge"; formerly The Golden Gate bridge, now colonized by squatters following a major earthquake. Kind of freaked me out a bit, as I had already settled on this version!
